Coming from the era when Star Wars was born and science fiction went through a renaissance, we were automatically attracted to futuristic imagery and stories of distant worlds. It was during this time that the original GirardPerregaux Casquette, Ref. 9931, was born. Soon after its initial arrival, the watch gained cult popularity and fans nicknamed the watch, 'Casquette', thanks to its resemblance to a peaked cap of the same name.
When first introduced, the Casquette was truly an avant-garde timepiece, never seen before. It touched upon our connection to the 'look' and appeal of the 1970s and our nostalgia for things that were boxy and angular. What really made us stand up and look was the prominently red tubular LED display that showed the time of the day, but only with a press of a button.
