The first thing that strikes visitors on arrival at Edgehill Shooting Ground is the sheer beauty of the place. Situated on the northernmost edge of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the venue’s gentle slopes and wide sight lines peer out over the Warwickshire countryside to induce a feeling of calmness, despite the crack of shotgun shells and whizz of clays flying overhead.
Perhaps it was this sense of calm that attracted owner and general manager Tim Spencer to the ground almost 25 years ago.
“Edgehill Shooting Ground was established in the 1970s,” explains Tim. “Back then, it was only a small facility for Sunday shoots. Over the years the ground grew and grew, with a clubhouse being constructed in the ’80s.
“Then the ground closed in 1997. Thankfully, I had the chance to reopen it in 1999. Since then, we’ve been working hard to develop the ground by adding a wide selection of disciplines, including some fantastic driven layouts that can be open six days a week by appointment.”
Tim and his team have really been hard at work over the past two decades. Today, shooters can enjoy Olympic and English Skeet, ABT, DTL, Universal Trench (UT), Compak, a three-lane air rifle range and an ever-changing English Sporting course.
“Our 10-stand Sporting course offers a variety of targets to suit shooters of all abilities,” explains Tim. “We frequently change our presentations and try to provide the most interesting targets possible.”
