This historic church, dedicated to Our Lady of Miracles, serves as a beacon of hope and devotion for locals and pilgrims alike. Each year the town comes alive with fervor and jubilation as it celebrates the Milagres Church Feast, a cherished tradition deeply ingrained in the cultural fabric of Goa.
Roots of Devotion
In local legend, there were said to be seven virtuous sisters: Lairai, Mhamai, Kelbai, Morjai, Mahalsa, Adiadipa and Mirabai.
According to Goan folklore, The deity Mirabai embraced Catholicism under the Portuguese influence and adopted the name Milagres. Legend also suggests that another sister was converted and is now revered as the patron of the Chapel of Our Lady of Remedios in Cunchelim, Cansaulim, located in Salcette taluka.
