The home is alive. It’s constantly evolving and never finished,” says Rosita Missoni, the co-founder of iconic Italian fashion house Missoni. Rosita has lived in the same home, just outside Milan, since launching the label in 1953. Yes, that’s 51 years. She’s a self-professed thrifter, collector and decorator. Her home is filled with treasures that were gifted to her and her husband over the decades, or bought on whirlwind trips abroad.
It’s no surprise, then, that she was the driving force behind the launch of Missoni Home nearly 20 years ago.
And she’s not the only fashion designer who can’t help but spill the wardrobe into the rest of the home, with even Christian Dior saying that “Living in a house that doesn’t suit you is a little bit like wearing someone else’s clothes”. Both are brilliant canvases for self-expression, creativity and conjuring up a feeling or atmosphere.
Fashion has always influenced the home in which it lives.
But now, social media has sped up the trickle-down effect into a trend. A fashion fad, like Barbiecore, results in home makeovers that feel like an overnight transformation. Nowadays, runways don’t just call the shots –hashtags and viral trend cycles do. Followers are invited into our wardrobes, and our homes, in equal measure. We’ve rounded up the latest fashion trends that are strutting their stuff into our homes quicker than you can say “Dopamine dressing” – or should that be “decor”?
