TWO clubs that have arrived back in the Northern League top flight by default played out a hard-fought 90 minutes on the opening of the new Northern League season.
Financial problems forced Marske United to resign from the Northern Premier League mid-season, subsequently dropping two divisions to return to Step 5.
A reformed Blue Star, meanwhile, lost their second division play-off final to Easington Colliery – only to be promoted anyway due to league restructuring.
Both sides celebrated their new surroundings with an early goal before Marske claimed the winner just past the half hour.
Marske first team coach Craig Hill believes it was the perfect start to life back in the Northern League after the club nearly went under last season.
