The car they were travelling in was hit with such force it rolled over three times before landing on a pavement with nearby houses shaken by the strength of the smash.
The driver was cut free but pronounced dead at the scene before medics performed an emergency caesarean section and fought for 40 minutes to save the baby.
But their efforts proved unsuccessful and the tot was declared dead alongside its 38-year-old mother on the A20 in Eltham, south-east London at 6.15pm on Thursday.
The unmarked police Volvo hit the expectant mother who was travelling in an oncoming car. Witnesses said it had its blue lights flashing and siren sounding at the time. A speeding car was spotted seconds before and locals speculated that it had been in pursuit when it hit the pregnant woman's vehicle.
