SILVER FOR GOURLEY'S BRIGT IDEA

NEIL GOURLEY tracked Jakob Ingebrigtsen's every move to secure an impressive 1500m World Indoor Championships silver before admitting: "If you can't beat him, join him."

Norway superstar Ingebrigtsen looked untouchable as he secured another distance double, having taken the 3000m title on Saturday in Nanjing, China.

And British team captain Gourley (top) decided before the race that his best route to the podium would be to shadow Ingebrigtsen rather than take it to him.

Ingebrigtsen had yet to win this specific title in what is already one of track and field's most decorated careers but he was a level above when securing victory in a modest 3:38.79.

"It was a case of when he shifts up in momentum I am going to be right there behind him," Gourley said.
