Rugby knock alerts docs to Sophie's knee tumour

A YOUNG rugby player was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer after an injury failed to heal.

Little Sophie Fulton, seven, twisted her leg during training on February 26 and immediately developed swelling in her limb.

Her parents, Tracey and Stewart, from Corstorphine in Edinburgh, took their daughter to the GP after she complained of ongoing pain.

Sophie, who has played for Forrester Rugby Club since she was just four, was diagnosed with an osteosarcoma tumour in her knee following scans two weeks later.

She is now undergoing chemotherapy at the Royal Hospital for Children in the capital.

Speaking to the Record, Tracey said: "Sophie started having pains in her knee which came and went but we just thought it was because she had twisted her leg at rugby training.
