Tensions rise in Middle East as Iran rejects calls for calm

The unidentified ship came under attack at least three times including from a bomb-carrying drone boat that was successfully "disabled" in a retaliatory attack, according to United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations.

The Iranian proxies from Yemen have targeted more than 70 vessels with missiles and drones since the start of the war in Gaza in October, forcing the deployment of a US-led naval coalition in the vital shipping lane.

Iran is weighing retaliation after an Israeli air strike killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and a Hezbollah commander in Beirut, throwing a shadow over international efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
