HC fines ex-MLA who hid German nationality

HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court on Monday fined former Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh ₹30 lakh for hiding details about his Germany citizenship while contesting assembly elections.
Justice B Vijay Sen Reddy, in his judgment, said the former MLA failed to prove that he had renounced his German citizenship to obtain Indian citizenship.
The judgment stems from Ramesh's plea challenging the Union home ministry's order revoking his citizenship. In 2019, the ministry had issued an order cancelling Ramesh's Indian citizenship for concealing facts while applying for it.
Ramesh is a four-time lawmaker from the Vemulawada seat in Sircilla district of Telangana. He first won the seat in 2009 on a Telugu Desam Party ticket. He then won from the seat thrice as a BRS candidate.
