The incident prompted Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to call a late-night meet on Monday to discuss inconvenience to flyers, hours after he issued directions for regulators and the airport operator at Delhi to take steps to minimise inconvenience to flyers as a result of delays caused by dense fog at the national capital.
While the low-cost airline was issued a notice for mistreating passengers by not providing basic amenities during the flight diversion at Mumbai, the airport operator was found in violation of norms by failing to report the incident, which occurred on Sunday night, to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), the security wing of the ministry.
"Both IndiGo and MIAL [Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd] were not proactive in anticipating the situation and making the appropriate facilitation arrangements for passengers at the airport," the BCAS said in its notices.
