MOROCCO fell victim to the Mayo curse last night as their fairytale journey through the World Cup ended at the hands of France.

Mayo curse strikes as diplomat tips Morocco

The 2-0 loss came after James McIntyre, Ireland’s ambassador to the north African country, posted a photo of himself in his Mayo jersey.

He tweeted: “As a proud Mayo native I wore the county jersey to the office today. The (Moroccan) colleagues in our building like it a lot for some reason!”

He then added in French: “May the best side win and go on the Lions of the Atlas.”

Mayo were reportedly cursed never to win another trophy until all of their 1951 All-Ireland winning side had died.
