Student cop took his own life amid job fears

A STUDENT police officer who took his own life was 'distressed' about the prospect of returning to work the next day, a coroner has ruled.

Anugrah Abraham, 21, from Whitefield, was found hanged in woodland on March 4 of last year. The 21-year-old - known to loved ones as Anu - was training with West Yorkshire Police (WYP) at the time.

An inquest at Rochdale Coroners Court heard that Mr Abraham was struggling under the pressure of working as a trainee Pc with the force while also doing a degree apprenticeship at Leeds Trinity University.

At the conclusion of the inquest yesterday, senior coroner Joanne Kearsley ruled that Mr Abraham's death was 'suicide'

Although Mr Abraham had spoken about depression and experiencing suicidal thoughts, he was left waiting months for an appointment with WYP's occupational health unit prior to his death, the hearing was told.
