The abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 was not a mere passing incident. It had, apparently, changed realities on the ground—realities that may no longer be reversed.

The regional parties of J&K had long fought and argued for the retention of 'special status' of J&K, before they were wiped off from the political scene, abruptly, for a considerable period of time. The 2024 J&K elections, where the National Conference came back to power, triggered some hope for bringing back the 'lost' nature and character of the region. But the ongoing ruckus over the resolution seeking restoration of the 'special status' has cast a spell of doubt over the aspirations of J&K leaders and a section of the population.
