Judges urged: Get tough on thugs who ram police cars

COURTS should get far tougher on people who use their vehicles to ram police cars, force leaders have urged.
A shocking rise in the number of attacks has led to calls for the law to be changed so ramming is classed as using a dangerous weapon.
And they want the CPS to consider such attacks as attempted murder, with the courts handing out longer sentences. A Freedom of Information request found that 244 officers were hurt in 2024, after police cars were rammed on purpose. That is 219 more than in 2023, and 200 more than in 2022.
