Proud Prince on future of a modern monarchy with homelessness and climate at the forefront

To do this, the future King plans to adopt a new "small r" approach to being a member of the Royal Family, bringing "empathetic leadership around the world".

Speaking during the last day of his trip to Cape Town, William, 42, said his projects, Earthshot and Homewards, respectively promoting innovative ideas to tackle climate change and homelessness, are key to his ambition to "help deliver change and make those lives better".

The Prince has just returned from his four-day trip to the South African city for his Earthshot Prize, where five winners were awarded £1million each to scale up their environmental solutions.

Before leaving Cape Town he spoke of his approach to being a royal, saying: "I'm trying to do it differently and I'm trying to do it for my generation.

"And to give you more of an understanding around it, I'm doing it with maybe a smaller r in the royal." Explaining what that means in practice, William said: "It's more about impact philanthropy, collaboration, convening and helping people.

"And I'm also going to throw empathy in there as well, because I really care about what I do.

"It helps impact people's lives and I think we could do with some more empathetic leadership around the world.
