10 dead as car hits crowd

AN SUV ploughed into a crowd celebrating New Year in the United States city of New Orleans, leaving 10 people dead, according to the BBC. Thirty people were also reported to have been injured.

The incident took place at the intersection of Bourbon Street, renowned for its numerous bars and clubs, and Iberville Street at around 3.15am local time. Eyewitnesses reported that a truck crashed into the crowd at high speed before the driver exited the vehicle and began firing a weapon. Police returned fire shortly after.
