The Grade II listed English Garden House has been out of bounds to the public for many years but has been allocated a £256,000 Historic Building Restoration grant from Cornwall National Landscape's Farming in Protected Landscapes programme, an Historic England grant worth £50,000 and a £20,000 contribution from the Friends of Mount Edgcumbe. A project to preserve and protect the building will get underway next month.
The house was built purely for the purpose of pleasure, and includes a marble bath big enough for six people. The English Garden House was built between 1718 and 1729 and is one of the earliest of its type still in existence. Historic England have described it as "...delightful. Whilst much has been added very little has been taken away".
