HAZARD GETS THE NOD BASED ON WHAT ROONEY HAS SEEN IN PRE-SEASON
CHRIS ERRINGTON
It's not easy for Cooper

WAYNE Rooney has admitted it is ‘not an easy moment’ for Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Michael Cooper because of the continuing transfer speculation about the 24-year-old.

Cooper was only on the bench for the crushing 4-0 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsboroughon Sunday as the Pilgrims’ 2024/25 Championship campaign got off to a dreadful start, with Conor Hazard between the posts instead. Rooney stated his decision to select the Northern Ireland international had been based ‘on what I have seen in preseason’, but also reiterated he wanted Cooper to stay at Argyle because ‘he’s a fantastic goalkeeper’.

Sheffield United have been strongly linked with Cooper, who is into the final year of his contract, but according to a report in one national newspaper on Sunday they have been ‘scared off’ by Argyle’s £6 million of valuation of the talented shot-stopper.
