Val and Caroline were pleased to win all the tie-breaks, taking the last set just as the lights went out 6-5, 6-5, 6-5.
Val and Caroline are obviously getting used to the late nights as another 8pm start match saw them win 6-2, 6-5, 6-2 over Deborah Bauckman and Karen Johnstone.
The final score of 6-0, 6-0, 6-2 didn't reflect the close games when Elizabeth Shaw and Carla Price won against Jane Williams and Victoria Roberts.
The windy weather played havoc when Katherine Rowe and Roanna George played Linda Trebilcock and Hilary Picton in Ladies A. Katherine and Roanna were 4-2 up in the second set but Linda and Hilary rallied well to win the set, but Roanna and Katherine managed to come through to win it overall 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
Some great angled shots and slice shots from both Nicky Trevaskis and Fiona Crutchley made it difficult for Luisa Warring and Sandra O' Sullivan.
In the third set, there were some hard, low forehands from Luisa and great serving from Sandra but Nicky and Fiona managed to stay focused to win 6-1, 6-1, 6-3.
The match between Nicky Slight and Jess Randell and Claire Duffin and Helen Lucas started off evenly, but Jess and Nicky soon found their stride to win 6-3, 6-2, 6-4, while Caroline Floccia and Stephanie D'Haussy beat Hilary Broadley and Karen Robinson in Ladies B 6-1, 6-5, 6-2.
