Spong takes the positives in Tavistock's defeat to Torquay
The Herald|July 19, 2024
TAVISTOCK assistant manager Darren Spong took plenty of positives from the performance, despite a relatively one-sided 4-0 defeat to National South side Torquay United at Langsford Park on Wednesday night.

The Lambs found themselves 3-0 down at the break to a strong Gulls side, with the goals coming from Brad Ash, Matt Carson and Ben Seymour, with former Exeter and Plymouth Parkway striker Seymour adding his second and Torquay's fourth after the break and in front of a crowd of 352.

"I take a lot of positives from it, although the scoreline is not what we wanted, we were playing against high-class opposition," said Spong, who took charge of the team in the absence of Stuart Henderson. "The tempo of their play, their movement - they were relentless in their pressing but they are a full-time outfit and we did alright against them.

"We created a few opportunities in the first half, even though we were 3-0 down. We changed our shape a bit in the second half and I thought we got a bit tighter to them and competed with them a little bit more, but they were still the better side and you expect that.
