PILGRIMS CAPTAIN DETERMINED TO MAKE AMENDS WHEN NORWICH HEAD TO HOME PARK TOMORROW

'We owe you a performance' says Edwards after City loss

PLYMOUTH Argyle owe the Green Army a performance and a result when they take on Norwich City, one of the leading contenders for promotion in the Championship this season, at Home Park tomorrow, captain Joe Edwards has declared.

The Pilgrims slipped to a fourth defeat in their last five Championship matches when they were heavily beaten 4-1 by Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night, with the 3,000-strong travelling supporters very vocal in their criticism of the team at times.

Manager Steven Schumacher made seven changes to his starting line-up as mainstays such as Jordan Houghton, Finn Azaz, Bali Mumba, Ryan Hardie and Morgan Whittaker all dropped down to the substitutes' bench with an eye on the visit of Daniel Farke's Canaries, who lost 2-0 at home to Leicester on Wednesday night, in mind.

It was a decision which backfired as Argyle conceded two goals in the opening eight minutes and were outplayed throughout by Bristol City. Now they know they need a reaction against fifth-placed Norwich.

Edwards said: "I have got full belief in everyone in the squad. It hurts us as much as the fans. I know they were bitterly disappointed on Tuesday and we owe them a performance and a result.

"That's our mindset whenever we have had a loss of that magnitude and that type of performance. We are going to lose games this year but the performance on Tuesday was the most frustrating and upsetting thing for us."

Edwards explained how had 'good honest meeting' had taken place between the Argyle management staff and players before training yesterday to reflect on where it went wrong at Ashton Gate and draw a line under it.
