Collegium system is alien to Constitution, says Rijiju

Terming the collegium system of appointment of judges to the constitutional courts alien to the Constitution, law minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday further stepped up demand for scrutiny of the judiciary by seeking transparency and accountability in appointments.

New Delhi: Rejecting the arguments of a section of the judiciary, the law minister said the government has all the mechanisms to find who is suitable for judgeship. “I don’t want to criticise the collegium, I just want to point out that there are loopholes and there is no accountability. It lacks transparency."
