Students Forced To Dangle From Bus Doors. College Buses Costly

Crammed commute to college: Blame it on shrinking RTC fleet

Hyderabad: Getting to college every day has become a nightmare for thousands of city students due to the acute shortage of TSRTC buses. Most adversely affected are those studying in the 20-odd colleges located in the city fringes. Of 1,900 city ordinary buses- the cheaper version of the state-run transport- plying in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) region, only 500 such buses are available for these students.

Owing to this ordeal, students are either forced to push through an overcrowded bus, hang from the doors or make room for themselves on the footboard, to get to college on time. Now, with the new academic year set to commence in a week, students fear that this crisis will get even more severe with students from four batches competing for limited bus space.
