The ability to change depth-of-field after photos have been taken has been tried before with Lytro cameras. But despite providing a tantalising feature, the technology didn’t quite live up to expectations. However, a similar result is now available in Photoshop using the Depth Blur Neural Filter, where you can reduce depth-of-field and change the point of focus in images with a large depth-of-field.
1 Convert for Smart Filters
Open your image in Photoshop and press Ctrl/Cmd+J to duplicate the Background Layer. Next, go to Filter > Convert for Smart Filters and the Layer will be converted so any Photoshop Filters can be edited after application. This is useful for maintaining non-destructive editing.
