SUNDERLAND boss Tony Mowbray was ecstatic after his side inflicted Southampton’s first league defeat of the season in emphatic style.
The win extended the Black Cats’ unbeaten run to three games and Mowbray was delighted after a “tough week” off the pitch due to transfer speculation surrounding a number of his players.
They lost Ross Stewart to the Saints, ironically, on deadline day, but also had interest in a number of other key players, including two-goal hero Pierre Ekwah and opening scorer Jack Clarke, while Bradley Dack and 16-year-old sub-Chris Rigg were also on the scoresheet in the rout.
Mowbray said: “The result is important for the team and the spirit.
