FRUSTRATED Phil Parkinson bemoaned the rigours of life on the road as Altrincham were blown away by Storm Bert and a resurgent Aldershot Town in a fruitless tenhour round-trip though the wind and rain.

James Henry’s seventh and eighth goals of the season made just a second win in 13 games appear rather too comfortable against an Alty side arriving on an impressive run of form.

“[I’m] really disappointed that we’ve let ourselves down today,” admitted Parkinson, who was denied the services of top scorer Regan Linney through suspension. “We’ve set a high standard, the last month or so, so to churn that out was really disappointing.

“The travel is a crippler for us, after five hours on a bus. We’d normally do this type of travel on an overnight and it’s maybe something we’ve got to look at as a football club. It doesn’t guarantee a win but it’s just that preparation – does it give us a little bit more of an edge and make us more prepared? But we didn’t adapt well enough to the conditions, Aldershot have played their home pitch really well.”
