Tears flowed as Sir Elton John played his last-ever UK concert at the recent Glastonbury festival - and many of them were his.
The Candle in the Wind hitmaker arrived on stage in a shiny gold suit before sitting at the piano and taking fans through a two-hour set that included many of his biggest hits from his 52-year career.
The gravity of the occasion wasn't lost on the 120,000 fans who gathered at the festival to watch the original Rocket Man's performance, and at one point Elton, 76, removed his famous red-tinted glasses to brush away his tears.
A further 7.6 million tuned in to the BBC to watch.
Dad-of-two Elton began his sweeping Farewell Yellow Brick Road world tour in the US in 2018, explaining that after decades in the spotlight, he wanted to spend as much time as he could with his husband David Furnish, 60, and their two sons, Zachary, 12, and Elijah, 10.
The pandemic, however, meant the tour was put on a long hiatus and even after it resumed, the star encountered problems, including a hip injury that forced further postponements of his European and UK legs.
In New Zealand, he had to cancel Auckland shows due to a deluge that flooded parts of the city.
