In this issue

In this issue, we are making time for families - big ones! Though the latest national statistics show that families in Singapore are shrinking, some families are bucking the trend. We turn the spotlight on some amazing parents who have delivered at least one child at our hospital as they espouse the kinship and support of a large family. They are living proof that having a big family is still possible in this day and age (pg 17). We get to the bottom of constipation by looking at the symptoms, causes and concerns, and how changes in lifestyle and diets can help to relief the problem (24). Childhood obesity is a weighty problem that can take an emotional and physical toll on our kids. There are things you can do to spare them the suffering (pg 31). Finally, depression is the most common psychiatric condition among the elderly, affecting between 3 and 6 percent of our aged population in Singapore. We look at what can be done to help recognise, prevent and manage this disabling condition (pg 38). Happy reading!
