|SAEVUS MARCH - MAY 2023
The author marvels at the resilience of the injured Shikra bird and rejoices in its recovery.
-

In October 2022, a male Shikra was found injured inside the storage room of a residence in Junnar town of Maharashtra, India. It was rescued by the Forest Department and was rushed for urgent medical intervention to the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre, which is run by Wildlife SOS.
As a first step, the Wildlife SOS veterinary doctors conducted a thorough medical examination to determine the extent of the injuries. Detailed X-ray reports revealed that the radius and ulna bones in his right wing were fractured. A quick anatomy lesson: the radius and ulna are two bones that make up the forearm in humans, and assist in the movement of our wrists and arms. In birds, these bones lie in their wings and help them to fly easily.
