GOING THE EXTRA MILE
Harper's Bazaar India
|January - February 2023
In a Bazaar India exclusive, Captain of the India Women’s National Cricket Team, Harmanpreet Kaur reveals her secret to staying motivated, her goals for the future, and why she is elated that female cricketers are finally getting equal pay.
Harper’s Bazaar: Tell us about your childhood.
Harmanpreet Kaur: “I have had an amazing childhood; I received all the support from my parents to take up cricket. Initially, my father asked me to pick up hockey since it is famous in Punjab, but I told him I wanted to stick to cricket even though I had no clue how to build a career in this field.”
HB: Walk us through your training schedule.
HK: “I train every day and I do not like taking breaks, that’s just how my body is built. Even if I happen to take a break, I put in twice the amount of effort to bounce back. I think I am the fittest in my team and that helps me remain motivated and positive.”
HB: What are some of the changes you would like to see in sports for women?
