We are kicking off the year with a few great hunting articles for those suffering from withdrawal symptoms, as the next hunting season is still a few months away. Our hunting editor, Stefan Fouché, braved Africa’s Black Death and took a magnificent old buffalo bull in the Caprivi in Namibia – a humbling experience that will remain with him for the rest of his life. Read all about it in “Another dagga boy in the Caprivi” . . .” For Wynand Jacobs, it was a dream come true when he won the 777 Hunting Competition, the largest of its kind ever in South Africa. Wynand’s prize included a seven-day hunt for seven trophy animals at Schoongezicht Hunting Safaris – a buffalo, sable antelope, roan antelope, kudu, eland, waterbuck and a golden gnu. Nico Kotzé went after fallow deer in the picturesque Wittkoppe mountains of the Free State, while LD Jennings explains why wingshooting over dogs can be just as exhilarating and rewarding as going after the dangerous stuff . If you are getting a bit “long in the tooth”, don’t despair; there is still hope. PH Andrea Potgieter guided an 80-year-old client from Denmark on a successful hunt, and he hopes to return for a buffalo!
