STEP 1
Often I am asked to do brush-painted cartoons, eagles, wolf and bear illustrations, etc. I initiated the Brush Paint course in my STEVE CHASZEYKA GRAPHICS ACADEMY showing the step-by-step process for this type of work. Here is a free sample. For this customer, we will be doing a Big Bad Wolf on the rear of the “trunk” of his Harley Davidson. The photo shows a copy of the one I did for him previously and I began by having him send me a photo of the old one. I then made a copy in black and white to scale. Making sure it fits...
STEP 2
I then rub the back side of the copy with good pastel chalk, NOT sidewalk chalk but the stuff real artists use. Give it a good coat of the stuff making sure you get all the edges....
STEP 3
Next, lightly rub the chalk into the back of the paper in a swiping motion. This will both make sure it has good coverage and any excess will blow off. You don’t want to skip this step because you will have chalk all over the place on your surface if you don’t wipe a lot of it back off.
STEP 4
After taping it in place begin to outline the shapes, pressing hard with a pen, then...
STEP 5
Quickly check the outline making sure it is transferring to the surface. If you need more chalk, repeat the process and leave a little more on the surface. Here, I could have taken a bit more off, as you can see there is some extra powder that I will have to be content with.
