In the 15 years it has been in operation in india, Volvo buses in india has not only set standards for luxury travel but has also been an early adopter and implementer of innovation and technologies. While it had a monopolistic run at the top of the luxury bus segment for a significant period, the company has continued to up the game in the market. its recent range of intercity coaches is set to drive its growth further.
In February 2016, Volvo Buses became the first bus maker to introduce hybrid buses in the country, when it delivered two hybrid city buses to the Navi Mumbai administration. The feedback it has received until now has been very positive. Data available with the company suggests that the Navi Mumbai administration has had 33 % of proven fuel savings, while emissions have reduced by half. Sriprasad, Managing Director – South Asia, Volvo Buses, Division of Volvo Group India said diesel-hybrids are the most pragmatic solution for the Indian market as of today, clearly indicating the direction the company is willing to take in the Indian context.
Globally, the company has stated that it is convinced about the fact that electro mobility will remain a cornerstone in the urban traffic structure for the foreseeable future. Absolute electro mobility may still take a while to fructify in India, but there is no doubt that city mobility or inter-city mobility will get increasingly diverse.
Towards that, Volvo Buses unveiled in November 2016, its new inter-city coach range, the Volvo 9400. Prior to that, the company had organised a preview of two of its coaches – 12 m and 14.5 m – products at its manufacturing facility in Hoskote, near Bangalore, for select media. There, we got to understand the work that has been undertaken to make these products ready for the market, and also got to experience the buses on the Volvo test track.

Good lighting makes a major contribution to road safety. In 2011, the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) presented an evaluation system for headlamps that can objectively assess the quality of illumination and glare limitation.
