What A Bind
Land Rover Owner|December 2017

Mark finally concedes that Victor, his Freelander 1, needs a new viscous coupling unit in order to stop the destruction of his driveline

What A Bind

I bought my Freelander for two reasons. I needed a work vehicle that would take me all over the UK to see Land Rovers – sometimes in hard-to-get-to places. And I needed a 4x4 to access the remote Highland holiday chalet that my wife Julia and I visit once a year. ‘Victor’, as Julia named him, cost £1250 about two and a half years ago. Given his relatively low mileage (53,400), apparent overall condition and service history, it didn’t seem too much to pay.

Just after buying it, I decided to upgrade the cooling system with the remote thermostat conversion, fitting new hoses and expansion tank at the same time. This seems to have pre-empted any cooling system problems – at least so far.
