What began as a shiny new Chevy C10 build quickly shifted gear when a customer saw Johan’s oxidised darkgreen cab at his workshop and exclaimed: “My brother would love that!”
Johan van Eck of Exclusive Rods and Customs was tasked with building a truck as a surprise birthday gift for his client’s brother, a big fan of patina-styled classics. Once the direction of the project was decided on, the build had to proceed in stealth-mode and rather quickly too.
This presented some difficulties. The truck was not complete and many parts were needed, especially patina-matching body parts. Johan called up everyone he thought could help, but no-one could. It was by pure fluke that he found two cabs and a load-bin on a farm just outside Springbok while on a road-trip. What was great about the find is the fact that the load-bin was found lying upside-down, only the bumper was completely rusted – the inside appeared to be well protected from the harsh Karoo elements and did not require much work.
