My 2019 motorsport season has started with more of a whimper than a bang… the first major event on my team calendar is the Jaguar Simola Hill Climb in May!
To be honest, although May seems a long way away, it’s good to have plenty of time to spend on developing the Continental Tyre Subaru #86BRZ. We had a great Hill Climb last year with a best time of 48 seconds, good enough to bring home the Queen of the Hill trophy, but the car can still go a lot faster.
Our biggest challenge in 2018 was getting a clean launch off the line. Even pulling off in second gear produced loads of wheel spin, and with every fraction of a second counting towards a good time, a good launch is crucial.
Late last year, we sent the little black pocket rocket down to Steve Clark at No Sweat Racing in Port Shepstone. Steve has done an amazing job of developing this car, and he ordered new valve springs a while back to help maintain the motor’s excellent reliability. The parts finally arrived and while the BRZ was there, Steve was able to install a simple launch control system.
