Trucking looks at the latest player in the opencast mining sector to see what it has to offer.
BAS Mining is part of the EXA-Holding group of companies, a family business formed in 1962. The BAS group sells new Volvo and Renault trucks and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) in the Southern region of The Netherlands.
Furthermore, BAS Trucks sells more than 6000 used trucks per year all over the world, as well as new and used truck parts. Another wing of the business is called BTS, which has two dealerships in Germany selling DAF trucks.
The specialist mining truck-producing part of the business was formed in 2010. As more opencast mining sites are explored, the area where the mined material is found is a long distance from the processing facility. BAS mining assures potential customers of the cost-effectiveness of its products when compared to heavy-duty off-highway dump trucks to haul these materials.
The Netherlands is a rich breeding ground for heavy-duty multi-axled trucks built into normal road-going chassis for off-road applications. We are all familiar with Ginaf and Terberg, and the addition of BAS in this specialised market makes it the more, the merrier.
When the two aforementioned makers add their badge lettering to their modified/converted products, most of us can recognise what the base vehicle is. The BAS approach is to subtly add its small oblong badge to the front of the vehicle, along with all of the other makers’ badges.
The BAS Mining product line is Volvo through and through, with the company using the FMX 540 and FH16 chassis.
