BREAKING THE DEADLOCK
It was an amazing week in Pozo. Winning it was a result I have dreamed of for a very long time. I had a lot of support from everybody on the beach and social media! Everyone was really pushing me. The finals were not my greatest heats, because the conditions were hard, but I was super happy that I managed to finally beat Philip Koester. Someone told me yesterday that between Victor and Philip they have been on top in Pozo for 13 years. I’m stoked I was finally able to break this deadlock.
I have had a lot of seconds, thirds and fourths and sometimes big mess ups back in ninth. But yeah, beating Philip here in his own backyard is a mission. The final wasn’t his best either. I guess I just played a bit smarter on the last super final. He made a mistake of not getting his final scoring jump in and I was able to beat him. This gives me a lot of motivation to keep on going. Because sometimes I even thought of stopping competing because I didn’t really have the sponsors to continue.
It was incredible. I got so emotional, because a lot of people I think wanted me to win. They were cheering me on the beach alongside my girlfriend. She had a lot to do with what happened because she helped me greatly mentally and was really supportive. Everybody at the beach gave me hugs and congratulated me, it was a pretty special day.
