A hundred miles an hour: that’s how white-knuckle life can feel sometimes. This last year, I think I’ve had maybe only a handful of free weekends, and most of them I’ve spent sleeping. The rest of the time, incessant phone reminders power me through a relentless to-do list, meet-ups with pals and work commitments. And I’m not even close to being the busiest on our team – you’ve never seen a more packed diary than that of our editor, Beth. Social life goals right there.
Slowing down, however, is easier said than done, and in typical Rosie-style, I found myself flying out of the office one freezing Friday night and diving into my husband’s car before a dark, winding drive through Loch Lomond and Glencoe. Our destination? Heaven – aka the Kingshouse Hotel.
COME AWAY IN
Okay, so heaven might be a slight exaggeration, but if anywhere can force you to take five and actually breathe for a second, it’s the Kingshouse. Even without daylight on our side, we could sense how peaceful this place was as we pulled into the car park, glimpsing the mighty Buachaille Etive Mòr’s slopes silhouetted against the moon with the icy River Etive glittering at its foot. I couldn’t wait for sunrise.
