In a tell-all interview, N.K.Sethia, Chairman and Founder of Newby Teas UK, sheds light on the significance of selecting the right quality tea and improper practices that prevail in the industry.
How is the perception of tea changing in the year to come?
2019 is the beginning of a massive transformation in the tea industry. The internet is going to expose what was suppressed and concealed from the masses. The world’s population, and the tea trade have both have expanded, while quality has constantly declined. The concept of fine tea has been buried.
People think tea is just tea – throw the leaves in boiling water, add milk and sugar and drink it. The medicinal benefits are unknown nowadays. Too many false tea masters have popped up. Everyone claims authority but they know practically nothing about tea.
Could you shed light on the processes that Newby Tea adopts to maintain the quality of its product until it reaches its end consumer?
Newby Teas is trying to revive the dying traditions through the concept of ‘preservation’ – preserving not just the character of the product, but also its history. Our emphasis is on the selection of teas from the quality tea growing regions of the world, in the prime season for all our traditional blends. These measures include – adopting highest standard of bio-chemical properties compliance of tea purchased, selection of food safe and secured packaging materials and concept of preservation in a state-of-the-art packaging facility.
