Hello! Encounters A Trio Of Designers And Their Mindful Muses Who Embrace A Sustainable, Yet Stylish, Ecosystem. In The Second Installment Of The Series, Hello! Indulges In A Sartorial Tale With Payal Khandwala And Adhuna Bhabani
The inimitable designer with an undeniable Indian soul joins forces with the hair maven for a stylistic escapade
The importance of sustainable fashion… Payal Khandwala:
“I think we must be conscious as customers as well as manufacturers. We must source and make responsibly, but also think before we buy. We cannot buy indiscriminate fast fashion without thinking about the impact it has on our planet. We must buy less but buy better. We must repeat and reuse, we must care about what we put on our bodies and in our wardrobes. Buying less is the only way to be truly sustainable.” Adhuna Bhabani: “If our planet is to survive, sustainability is the key to everything we do... including what we wear.”
How do you personally recycle and reuse? Payal:
“I often use old textiles or my old clothes to recycle them into new outfits for myself and sometimes for my daughter, Mira. As a conscious decision, I always give away clothes to charities, I never throw them in the bin and most importantly as a principle, I don’t buy clothes on impulse, or buy clothes that are trendy and that I know won’t stand the test of time.”
Adhuna: “I try to reinvent my clothes if I can, mixing and matching them – sometimes even altering, cutting and redesigning them myself ! I should admit that I am becoming more conscious about the importance of recycling and reuse. I’m trying to resist the temptation of buying more new things. I love vintage fashion and if I had great options here in India, I would definitely only shop vintage!”
