The cold, dreary days can expose your baby’s skin to dryness and even infection. Make notes, as our experts throw light on how to keep your tot’s skin healthy and supple throughout the season.
THE WINTER weather can be extremely tough on your sweetie’s tender skin, especially those rosy cheeks and her cute little nose that can go red and dry in no time. Child tells you how to care for your tiny tot’s birthday suit at the time when she needs you to tend to her the most.
SKIN FOE: Dryness
“My baby’s cheeks get dry and red. That’s the only issue with him during the winters, and coconut oil works fine to take care of that,” says Gurgaon-based Rangoli Nagar, mom to 3-year-old Parth. Apart from a drop in humidity levels, hot water baths and harsh soaps can take away your baby’s skin oils. “Also, heaters can further rob the skin’s natural moisture,” says Mumbai-based paediatrician Dr. Uday Ananth Pai.
COMBAT TRICK: Always use lotions and creams that are specifically meant for babies. They will help maintain the skin’s pH levels. Quick, lukewarm water baths are ideal, followed by the application of a moisturizer. You may apply a light coat of mustard oil near your toddler’s nose to keep it from drying. Plus, you can go for anti-oxidant-rich spices: Just mix a few saffron threads or a pinch of turmeric powder in your infant’s milk and feed him before sleeping.
