Linux PCs
I’m looking to buy a dedicated Linux PC. I’ve searched around online, but have not had much luck. I’ve been using Windows for years and now want to switch hardware and buy a dedicated Linux PC. I know I can install Linux on my Windows PC, but I want a dedicated Linux PC. Is it no longer possible to do that? Ron Cavers
Neil says…
I totally understand your problem, the issue is Linux is hard for companies to support. One UK company to check is www.junocomputers.com.
On a less helpful point, there isn’t really a “Windows PC” or a “Linux PC” – we’re all using the “IBM PC Compatible” standard(s). That’s why you can run Linux on top of an old Windows-running PC without experiencing (usually) too many problems, rather than say an Android device or even some Macs (although these are still largely PCs at the moment).
Another option is that Ubuntu still has a certification programme with Lenovo. The company guarantees that its products will happily run Ubuntu even if they’re not shipped with Ubuntu (see https://certification. ubuntu.com/make/Lenovo).
If this inspires you then we’ve got the Build a Linux Gaming PC in this issue (page 48), so if you’re feeling adventurous you could make your own Linux PC!
