Maureen Mclean met with Barb McBean to pick up some tips for the festive season and hear about a remarkable charity
IF you would like your house or shop decorated for Christmas, then look no further than Barb McBean. The expat Canadian arrived in the UK two years ago, after spending 13 years in Dubai, UAE.
Christmas has always been a very special time for Barb and her family and she has made a huge effort to make it so over the years. As an expat living in a country where Christmas was not celebrated, she had to create the spirit with a group of friends in a similar situation in Dubai.
Her children are now grown, left home and living all over the world, but Barb has maintained the seasonal spirit around her home as if they were all still there. To them she is ‘The Christmas Queen’, and whenever possible they try to head home.
Over the years she has accumulated an exquisite array of Christmas decorations, gathered from all over the world. So many people seeing Barb’s home at Christmas have asked for her help in decorating their own homes and shops – and that’s brought us to where we are today.
