Having dabbled successfully in television, theatre and films, prolific Marathi actor UMESH KAMAT is finally getting his due with the success of his latest Ye Re Ye Re Paisa. Citadel enjoys an extended tête-à-tête with the talented artiste.
When you look at the evolution of the Marathi film and television industry, we’ve been seeing some bright spots, despite issues. Talent is the only way up, and trying out something different is the sure shot way to stardom. Actors have a difficult time making a mark since they have to compete with quite a few others with remarkable talent. Amidst the chaos, you will find the much-loved and delightful actor who graces our cover – Umesh Kamat.
Ask any viewer of any age; chances are that he or she is a fan of Umesh, who has been seen in TV serials, plays and movies for more than a decade. The first time he grew to prominence was with the very popular serial Abhalmaya, and later Ya Gojirvanya Gharat. Vaadalvaat’s Soham is still fondly remembered. But Asambhav made Umesh the heartthrob of the television industry and is still one of the highlights of his career. Shubhamkaroti was followed along with Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta. His Om in Eka Lagnachi Teesri Goshta too created more fans for him.
Call him rather eclectic, but Umesh’s choices in terms of work have not been the usual. His filmography includes Kaydyacha Bola, Mani Mangalsutra, Time Please, Lagna Pahave Karun, A Paying Ghost, Ye Re Ye Re Paisa and the just released Asehi Ekda Vhave. His plays include Sonchafa, Swami, Ranangan, Investment, Nava Gadi Nava Rajya and Don’t Worry Be Happy. That’s definitely an impressive body of work under his belt.
