Decorating our homes for Christmas often triggers those first stirrings of true seasonal joy. We asked leading interior designer Steven Dalton to share his top tips for a super stylish and elegant festive season.
I have to admit I’m crazy for Christmas! I’d have my decorations up all year round if I thought I could get away with it. Christmas is a time for family and friends so it’s the perfect opportunity to make your home as warm and welcoming as possible. Here are my top tips to help you achieve a really happy and harmonious Christmas interior.
1 CHOOSE A THEME
Keep things simple by deciding on a theme – this could be a single colour, several complimentary colours or a ‘look’ such as modern Scandi or traditional Victorian. Think about the bones of your house, the architecture and interesting features which can be decorated to make them really stand out. Victorian and Georgian houses look great with festive swags and giant trees that take advantage of high ceilings, whereas modern homes suit a more minimalist approach. Whatever you decide on, try and stick to it as the key to a great festive interior is continuity.
