Elim legend Tom Walker went to his reward recently. General Superintendent Chris Cartwright pays tribute to one of the Movement’s most faithful servants
Tom Walker has held the highest office in the Elim Movement and served in almost every capacity.
Dates and facts can only hint at the huge contribution he has made to the life and development of Elim over the past 60 years.
Tom entered the Elim Bible College, Clapham, on May 16, 1943 at the age of 19. At the time Elim faced the challenges of the Second World War – as well as significant internal challenges.
Originating from our Hull church, Tom had already served in ministry posts prior to attending Bible College, as minister at Bradford Elim. He also served in a number of our churches in London including Sydenham, Croydon, Barking, Finsbury Park, Woolwich and Ealing.
On August 3, 1945, Tom entered into Elim royalty when he married Ruth Hathaway. Over the next 60 and more years they would serve God and Elim in a remarkable partnership, Ruth herself being instrumental in so much pioneering missions work through her leadership of the EWMA.
