The Chitragupta Temple In Kanchipuram

The austere city of Kanchipuram is located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This city is blessed with many ancient and sacred temples of imposing architecture built in honour of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvathi and Lord Vishnu, the major Gods in Hinduism. The most prominent temples in Kanchipuram are Ekambareshwar temple, Kailasanathar temple, Kamakshi Amman temple and Varadaraja Perumal temple.

There is another lesser known temple in Kanchipuram known as Chitragupta temple which was built in honour of Lord Chitragupta, the Chief Accountant of Lord Yama, the God of death! It is believed that Lord Chitragupta keeps a record of all the good deeds and the bad deeds done by human beings and sends them either to heaven or to hell after death, based upon their merits or demerits acquired during their sojourn on Earth!
