Perth-born PALLAVI SHARDA, who is set to make heads turn in BEGUM JAAN, tells SHUBARNA MUKERJI SHU what all men need to know about women.
It hasn’t been a bed of roses for you, and yet there is no mistaking the fact that being an actor is you…. so tell us what is the best part of working as an actress for you?
I love that as an actress I can explore different facets of womanhood and humanity. I am able to draw on experiences from my life and my past and convert them into new experiences which weave in with the director’s vision and story. It is exciting to go to work every day, get on the sets and see yourself transform into someone else. It is like an out of body experience, sometimes it is more difficult, sometimes it feels like I am just leading into an extension of myself… For instance, my character in BEGUM JAAN is gritty and raw in a way that is very far removed from the kind of person I am. Never before have I had the chance to play someone who is so fundamentally different from me. But I loved the challenge of playing a young woman from Hoshiarpur in 1947. That’s my high, my reward for the hours we put in…
Having worked closely with different industries, how different have been your experiences in both? Also are the hurdles you hit upon the same everywhere or different?
